Search Tips: Find Channels and Titles Fast

The fastest way to find something is to ask for it directly. Rock Player's search looks across what is available to you so you can jump straight to the channel or title you want, rather than scrolling category by category.

These tips will help you search more efficiently, whether you are using a TV remote or a phone keyboard.

Tip 1: Type less

On a TV, every letter takes several presses of the remote. The good news is that search usually needs only a few characters.

  1. Open search.
  2. Type the first three or four letters.
  3. Look at the results before typing more.

More often than not, what you want will already be there.

Tip 2: Start with the most distinctive word

If a name has several words, start with the least common one. A short, unusual word narrows results much faster than a common one.

Tip 3: Do not worry about every detail

You do not need to type a full name exactly. If you are unsure of the spelling, type the part you are confident about and look through the results.

Tip 4: Use your phone for long names

On Android phones and tablets, the on-screen keyboard is quick and familiar. If you are browsing on your phone anyway, it can be faster to search there and add what you find to My List - it will be waiting on your profile.

Tip 5: Know when to browse instead

Search is ideal when you know what you want. When you do not, browsing is better:

  • Live TV categories group channels so you can explore a theme.
  • Channel previews let you see what is playing before you switch.
  • The TV Guide shows what is on now and later.
  • Movies & Series let you browse titles and open their details pages.

A good rule: search for names, browse for moods.

Tip 6: Save what you find

Once you have found something, keep it close so you never need to search for it again.

  • Add channels to Favourites.
  • Add movies and series to My List.

Next time, they will be one press away.

Tip 7: Check Continue watching first

If you are looking for something you started earlier, skip search altogether. Continue watching and your history are usually the fastest way back.

Searching with a TV remote

A few remote-specific habits make searching on the big screen more comfortable:

  • Hold the arrow keys to move quickly across the on-screen keyboard.
  • Use the back button to step out of the keyboard and into the results.
  • Use the select button to open a result.

Rock Player's big-screen interface is designed for remote-friendly navigation, so you can move between the keyboard and results without fuss.

Searching on phones and tablets

On phones and tablets, Rock Player uses a bottom navigation layout. Search is easy to reach, and your phone's keyboard makes typing quick. Tap a result to open it, or add it straight to your list.

When search returns nothing

If a search comes back empty:

  1. Shorten the search. Fewer letters often find more.
  2. Check the spelling. Try a different spelling of an uncertain word.
  3. Try a different word. Search for another part of the name.
  4. Check your connection. Search needs the internet to fetch results.

A quick search routine

When you sit down knowing exactly what you want, try this sequence:

  1. Press into search straight from the home screen.
  2. Type three or four letters of the most distinctive word.
  3. Move down to the results and highlight the one you want.
  4. Before pressing play, add it to Favourites or My List so you will never need to search for it again.

After a week or two of this habit, most of what you watch will already be one press away, and search becomes a tool for new discoveries rather than daily routine.

Search and profiles

Each person in the household can have their own profile. When someone finds something through search and saves it, it lands in their own Favourites or My List, keeping everyone's shortlist personal.
