Never Miss a Moment: Recordings and Reminders

Good television deserves better than "I forgot it was on". Rock Player gives you two simple tools to make sure that never happens: reminders, which nudge you when something is about to start, and Recordings, which keep a programme for you to watch later.
This guide explains each one, when to use which, and how to keep everything organised.
Reminders: a gentle nudge
A reminder is the lightest way to keep track of a programme. You set it once and Rock Player lets you know when that programme is about to begin.
Setting a reminder
- Open the TV Guide.
- Move forward in time to find the programme.
- Highlight it and choose the reminder option.
That is all. Carry on with your evening, and Rock Player will let you know when it is time.
When to use reminders
- You plan to watch live, but you might lose track of time.
- You are browsing the guide and see something interesting later in the week.
- You want to watch something with others and need everyone in the room at the start.
Recordings: keep it for later
A recording keeps a programme so you can watch it whenever suits you.
Setting a recording
- Open the TV Guide.
- Find the programme you want to keep.
- Highlight it and choose the record option.
Your recordings are kept in Rock Player's Recordings section, ready when you are.
When to use recordings
- You know you will be busy when something airs.
- You want to watch at a different time from the rest of the household.
- You want to watch without being tied to the live schedule.
Reminders, recordings or catch-up?
Rock Player also offers Catch-up of past programmes, where available. Here is a simple way to decide between the three:
| Situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| I want to watch live, but might forget | Reminder |
| I definitely cannot watch live | Recording |
| It has already aired and I wish I had seen it | Catch-up, where available |
Using all three together is a calm way to manage a busy week.
Building a weekly routine
Many viewers find it helpful to spend a few minutes at the start of the week with the TV Guide:
- Browse the next few days on your Favourites channels.
- Set reminders for things you plan to watch live.
- Set recordings for anything that clashes with plans.
- Let the week unfold without checking the schedule every evening.
Keeping recordings tidy
Recordings are only useful if you can find them. A few habits help:
- Watch and clear. Once you have watched a recording, remove it so the list stays short.
- Use profiles. When each person in the household has their own profile, everyone's viewing stays easier to manage.
- Review weekly. Glance through your recordings once a week and remove anything you no longer plan to watch.
Making reminders work for the household
Reminders are especially helpful when several people want to watch together. A few ideas:
- Set the reminder a little early in your mind. When the reminder appears, it is a cue to gather everyone, find the remote and settle in before the programme begins.
- Use a shared profile for shared viewing. A family profile is a natural home for the things everyone watches together.
- Combine with Multiview. If two programmes you care about start at the same time, a reminder for each plus Multiview means you can follow both on one screen.
Keep your connection steady
Recordings and playback both depend on a stable internet connection. For the steadiest experience on a TV:
- Connect with an ethernet cable where possible.
- If you use Wi-Fi, keep the router in an open spot, not inside a cabinet.
- Restart your router occasionally if the network feels sluggish.
Troubleshooting
I did not see my reminder. Make sure the device was switched on and connected at the time, and check that the reminder was set for the right programme in the TV Guide.
I cannot find a recording. Check the Recordings section and confirm you are on the right profile.
A programme I recorded looks shorter than expected. Programmes sometimes start or end at slightly different times from the guide. Check the guide times when you set the recording.
