Profiles for the Whole Family

In most homes, the TV is shared. One person likes to keep up with the news, another binges series at the weekend, and someone else only ever watches the same three channels. Without profiles, all of that ends up tangled together.

Profiles in Rock Player solve that neatly. Each person gets their own space inside the app, so their favourites, list and viewing history stay their own.

What a profile keeps separate

When you switch to your profile, Rock Player shows you your own:

  • Favourites - the channels you have starred.
  • My List - the movies and series you have saved for later.
  • Continue watching and history - what you have been watching and where you left off.

That means your home screen reflects your viewing, not everyone else's.

Setting up profiles

A good time to create profiles is right after you activate Rock Player, before everyone starts adding favourites.

  1. Open Rock Player.
  2. Go to the profiles option.
  3. Create a profile for each person who regularly watches.
  4. Give each one a clear, recognisable name.

Naming tips

  • Use first names. Simple is best on a big screen.
  • Avoid lookalikes. Names that start with the same letters are harder to tell apart at a glance.
  • Consider a shared profile. A "Family" or "Living room" profile is useful for things everyone watches together.

Switching between profiles

When someone new sits down, switching profiles takes a moment. Make it a habit to check which profile is active before you start watching, so your Continue watching row stays accurate.

Profiles and the household routine

Weeknights

Each person can jump straight to their own Continue watching and pick up where they left off, without scrolling past anyone else's programmes.

Weekends

A shared family profile becomes the home for things you watch together. Add them to that profile's My List during the week and the weekend plan is ready.

Busy evenings

Combine profiles with reminders and Recordings so everyone can keep track of the programmes they care about.

Profiles are not devices

It is worth being clear about one thing. Profiles organise the people who use Rock Player; they do not change how many screens can watch at the same time. That depends on your plan. As our FAQ puts it:

One subscription is for one device at a time. You can log in on two devices, but you can watch on only one device at a time.

So a household with four profiles on a one-device plan can all enjoy their own space - just not on different screens at the same moment. If you need more than one screen playing together, see the device options on our pricing section. Plans cover one to five devices, and you can contact us for six to ten.

Making each profile feel personal

Once profiles are set up, a few minutes of curation goes a long way.

  1. Star regular channels. Each person should add their usual channels to Favourites.
  2. Build a list. Save movies and series to My List as you discover them on their details pages.
  3. Use search. Search is the quickest way to find something specific to add.

Appearance for everyone

Rock Player supports light, dark and auto appearance. Dark is easy on the eyes in a dim living room in the evening, while auto follows your device's own setting.

Tips for families with children

  • Create a profile for each child. Their favourites stay in one place, and they can find their own things quickly.
  • Keep the family profile for shared viewing. That way the adults' and children's lists stay organised.
  • Teach the basics of remote navigation. Rock Player's big-screen interface is designed for remote-friendly navigation, so the arrow keys and select button are all most people need.

Housekeeping

Every so often, tidy up:

  • Remove profiles for people who no longer use the app.
  • Clear titles from My List that you have finished.
  • Remove channels from Favourites you no longer watch.

A tidy profile is a fast profile.

Space for everyone

Profiles are included with every Rock Player plan. Download the app from /get, pick a plan at /#pricing, and give everyone at home a space that streams solid like a rock.

Ready when you are.
