Rock Player on Android Phones and Tablets: Install Guide

Rock Player is at its most cinematic on a television, but it is just as useful in your hand. On Android phones and tablets the app switches to a phone layout with bottom navigation, so everything you need sits within reach of your thumb.

Installing on a phone is the quickest of all our setup guides, because your phone already has a web browser. Here is how to do it.

Before you begin

  • An Android phone or tablet with an internet connection.
  • A little free storage space.
  • A few minutes.

Rock Player is installed from our website as an APK file rather than from the app store. Android will ask you to approve this, which is normal and only happens once.

Step 1: Download the app

  1. On your phone, open your web browser.
  2. Go to our /get page.
  3. Tap the download link. Your browser may warn that this type of file can be harmful - this is a standard Android message for any app downloaded outside the store. Tap Download to continue.
  4. When the download finishes, tap Open in the notification or the browser's download bar.

Step 2: Allow the install

The first time you install an app from your browser, Android will stop and ask for permission.

  1. Tap Settings on the prompt.
  2. Switch on Allow from this source for your browser.
  3. Tap the back arrow to return to the installer.
  4. Tap Install.

When the install completes, tap Open. You can switch the browser permission back off afterwards if you prefer; Rock Player is already installed.

Step 3: Activate

When Rock Player opens, it shows a device code.

  • If you are new, choose a plan at /#pricing or go to /activate, and follow the steps with your device code. You can also chat with us on WhatsApp through the website.
  • If you are already a customer, tap I have a login and sign in.
  • If the app offers a free trial, you can start with that.

Once your device is activated, tap Check again and the app unlocks.

A tip for activation on a phone

Because you are activating on the same phone that shows the code, it helps to write the code down or take a quick screenshot before switching to your browser. That way you will not need to switch back and forth.

Finding your way around the phone layout

On phones and tablets, Rock Player uses a bottom navigation bar. The main sections are always one tap away, and you can move between them without losing your place.

Live TV

Browse by category, and use channel previews to see what is on before you commit. The TV Guide shows the full schedule.

Movies & Series

Each title has a details page so you can learn more before you press play. When you stop part-way through, Continue watching keeps your place.

My List and favourites

Tap to add channels to your Favourites and titles to My List. Your shortlist travels with your profile.

Search

Search is the fastest way to find a channel or title on a small screen. A few letters is usually enough.

Phone-friendly habits

A phone is a different environment from a living room, so a few habits help:

  • Use Wi-Fi where you can. Streaming video uses mobile data quickly. If you do stream over mobile data, keep an eye on your allowance.
  • Charge while you watch long sessions. Video playback is one of the more demanding things a phone does.
  • Try auto appearance. Rock Player's auto setting follows your phone's own light or dark mode, which is easy on the eyes at night.

Tablets

On a tablet you get the same app with more room to breathe. Tablets are a great choice for a kitchen counter or a bedside table, and pair nicely with the TV Guide for browsing what is on.

Troubleshooting

"App not installed". This usually means storage is low. Clear some space and try again.

I cannot find the downloaded file. Open your phone's Files or Downloads app; the Rock Player file will be at the top of the list.

The install button does nothing. Close any apps that draw over the screen, such as chat bubbles or screen filters, then try again.

The app shows a code instead of content. That is expected before activation. Follow Step 3.

Staying up to date

Rock Player includes automatic updates. When a new version installs, Android may ask you to allow Rock Player to install it - switch on Allow from this source once and future updates go smoothly.

Take Rock Player with you

Your phone or tablet is ready to stream solid like a rock. Download the app at /get, and choose a plan at /#pricing whenever you are ready.

Ready when you are.

Choose your plan, install the app and start watching in minutes.
